In “that which grows wildly and profusely” Carrie Allison shows us an intervention to the colonial, Victorian attitudes that have gone into the Halifax Public Gardens. Acknowledging what the Victorian period recognized as “advances,” “exotic,” “rare,” and “never seen before” as a culmination of these colonial mindsets.
Allison invites the viewer to confront this history of the Public Gardens, and how it remains in our day-to-day experiences. The beaded works in this series were produced for an augmented reality exhibition for the Centre for Art Tapes in 2020.”
